The Lüderitz Speed Challenge 2008 has come to an end, and it was a milestone, both for the competitors as well for Xelerator.

Seb was the first first sailor in the world to hit an average of over 50 knots, 50.52 over the WSSRC-recognised 500m course and wrote history.

Unfortunately Seb only had the record for 1 day when Alex took over by having three perfect runs over 50 knots ending up with the new WR of 50.57. Also Robert who has been performing very well got 0.02 knots faster than Seb this is only about 20 cm over the 500m!!

After the red flag went up to end the sailing on the last day, Sebastien Cattelan stayed out to see what could be done as the wind suddenly picked up even more in the late afternoon. On GPS he by far exceeded the current records, with over a 60 knots peak speed, and 54 knots average over 250m!

Outright South Africa (and Africa) speed sailing record - Grant Ross 48.79

Outright UK speed sailing record - David Williams – 44.78

Spain kitesurf record - Marc Avela    42.76
